It's so wild to think that Disney's animation department was nearly shut down. From Walt's death in 1966 and the arrival of Michael Eisner and Jeffery Katzenberg to Disney in the mid-80s, the animation studio was seemingly on its last legs. The quality of the animation had decreased since Walt's death, and none of the movies were becoming major classics in the Disney canon. They came into the theaters and were forgotten about nearly as soon as they left. It took Katzenberg's innovation on Oliver & Company and soon after the more Broadway-style The Little Mermaid to usher in an era of major success for Disney animated movies. If you told Roy E Disney that animation would be the most successful Disney venture of the early 90s, he would tell you to get out of town. If you're glad the animation department wasn't sold for parts, these Disney memes are for you.
