At some point last year I started getting bombarded with ads for systems that introduce climate control to your bed. While that sounds lovely, I have accumulated 500 blankets and a kickass A/C and fan, so I felt like I could probably handle it without adding technology.
After using the BedJet, I learned that I have, in short, been a fool.
The BedJet 3, on sale for $464 (normally $599; the price includes an additional $25 off coupon), is like a mini A/C and heater that blows warm or cool air beneath your top sheet (or into an inflatable sheet you can buy). I had so many reservations initially—first of all, I love my sheets, and I did not trust a generic top sheet from BedJet. It turned out to be super soft and crisp, and the texture of the sheet impacted me far less when it was basically floating over me. I tried using the BedJet without that top sheet, and it was nowhere near as nice. You want that top sheet—and you can still use a comforter over it.
Once you turn on the BedJet, it inflates the top sheet, but is whisper quiet. It's exciting and weird to see it happen. But almost immediately I realized how much cooler my body was versus the fan and A/C solution I usually use. Because the air is contained in the sheet, I noticed my sinuses weren't as dry in the morning, nor was my skin. More importantly, the cooling action is instantaneous, which as a middle-aged female is deeply appreciated. You can fine tune the temperature, too, which is great.
It works equally well when you need it to heat up the bed instead of cool it down. On a few mornings, I've blasted my feet with a minute or two of warm air, which is a luxury I didn't know before.
The controls for the BedJet are awesome—it's smart, so you can download the app and control it from your phone or use the remote. Normally, I loathe an additional remote in my house, but the BedJet's is kinda cool. You can simply set the BedJet for a normal nine-hour run, but there are advanced controls that let you set up routines, too.
Now, this may all sound like malarkey, and I acknowledge that it's purely anecdotal, but I have slept better in the last two weeks than I remember in recent history. The temperature consistency and sleeping below a soft, cool, cloud have had a pretty transformative effect on me. All of this comfort comes at a cost, obviously, but today, that cost is reduced to $464.
If you're asking for an early holiday gift, or have trouble sleeping and are ready to throw some money at the problem, this is a good direction to throw it in.
