With the Illuminate finally live in Helldivers 2, Sony has released the new Urban Legends premium Warbond to aid players in their defence of Super Earth.
The arrival of the alien Illuminate invasion fleet also brings with it new urban environments to fight in. These colony planets include narrow streets and close encounters, and so the new additions to the game revolve around a defensive, War of the Worlds-type action.
Urban Legends adds Helldivers 2’s first melee secondary weapon, the SQC-19 Stun Lance. This extra-large poker offers good range and pairs well with the SH-51 Directional Shield stratagem, Arrowhead social media and community manager Katherine Baskin said in a post on the PlayStation Blog.
As game director Mikael Eriksson told IGN in a recent interview, the Illuminate offer a tougher fight than the Terminids or the Automatons. Many of their big hitters have shields, including the imposing Harvesters. So, the E/AT-12 Anti-Tank Emplacement, new with this warbond, is recommended to help take them down.
Meanwhile, the A/FLAM-40 Flame Sentry is useful for taking down a horde of Voteless (mind-controlled colonists who act like zombies). It’s a stationary, high-powered flamethrower turret, although based on IGN’s hands-on with the Illuminate update, it poses as much of a threat to friendlies as it does to enemies.
There’s also the new Armed Resupply Pods booster, which upgrades your resupply pods with a tiny top-mounted turret. Armor wise, there’s the SR-18 Roadblock heavy armor for that bulky spartan look, and the SR-24 Street Scout light armor for a S.E.A.F trooper look. Both of these armors feature the Siege Ready passive, which increases your primary weapon reload speed by 30% and your primary ammo capacity by 20%. That’ll be helpful against the relentless Voteless.
The two new capes are the Greatcloak of Rebar Resolve and the Holder of the Yellow Line. The new emote is ‘This is Democracy.’
The Illuminate join the bugs and bots as Helldivers 2’s third enemy faction, and are set to breathe new life into the explosive third-person co-op action game. Helldivers 2 is the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time, having shifted an incredible 12 million copies in just 12 weeks following its February launch.
